Goat Simulator 3: Cryoray MK II Location – This One Almost Broke Me

I’ve dug through digital dirt for over a decade. I’ve found hidden loot in Skyrim that wasn’t marked on any map. I’ve uncovered secrets in Breath of the Wild that the developers probably forgot they added. But the Cryoray MK II in Goat Simulator 3? This one tested my patience. Not because it’s hard. Because the game gives you almost no feedback that you’re doing it right.
Let me walk you through exactly how to get it, including the specific moment I nearly gave up and went to watch YouTube (spoiler: I’m glad I didn’t).
What Is the Cryoray MK II?
It’s a freeze-ray gun for your goat. You equip it, and instead of headbutting or licking, you shoot a beam of ice that turns NPCs into solid blocks. It’s absurd. It’s hilarious. And it’s one of the more hidden pieces of gear in the Baadlands.
The Exact Location (And Why You’ll Miss It)
Open your map and go to the Baadlands region again. You’re looking for an area called Fruitopia – it’s a weird, colorful oasis in the middle of the desert. Think psychedelic fruit-themed zone.
Once you’re in Fruitopia, look for a crashed UFO. It’s not hard to spot – it’s a silver saucer stuck in the ground, left of an area called Overlook (there’s a lookout point with a telescope). You’ll know you’re close when you see the weird alien wreckage.
Now here’s where the confusion starts. Near the UFO, there are four rocks arranged in an X shape. Not a plus sign. An X. Like two lines crossing. The rocks are small – easy to mistake for random terrain decoration.
I walked over that X at least five times. Nothing happened. No glowing marker. No quest prompt. Just four rocks in the dirt.
The Step I Got Wrong (Don’t Skip This)
You need the Drill Kicks equipped. Remember that guide I wrote earlier? Yeah, you need those. If you don’t have them, go get them first. I tried headbutting with normal hooves. Nothing. I tried using a different digging gear. Nothing. Only the Drill Kicks work for this specific spot.
Once you have the Drill Kicks on, stand in the exact center of the X – where the two lines of rocks would cross. Then start headbutting the ground. Spam that button. R2 / RT / left mouse click.
At first, nothing seems to happen. The ground doesn’t break like it did for the Drill Kicks event. You’ll just see dirt particles. Keep going. I headbutted for what felt like thirty seconds before a metal barrel suddenly popped out of the ground. That barrel is the Cryoray MK II.
But wait – it’s not unlocked yet. Now you have to headbutt the barrel. Repeatedly. The barrel will shake, make clanking sounds, and eventually crack open. Once it breaks, the gear automatically equips.
Mistakes I Made (So You Don’t Have To)
-
Not using Drill Kicks. I tried regular headbutts, a pickaxe from another game, even a battering ram from a vehicle. Nothing worked. The game doesn’t tell you this. You just have to know.
-
Looking for the wrong rock formation. There are other rock piles near the UFO. The X is specific. If you’re headbutting a triangle or a line, you’re in the wrong spot.
-
Stopping too soon. I hit the ground maybe fifteen times, saw nothing, and assumed I was wrong. You need persistence. I’d say forty to fifty headbutts before the barrel appears. Your thumb will get tired. That’s normal.
-
Forgetting to break the barrel. Even after the barrel pops up, you have to keep headbutting it. I thought maybe I had to pick it up. Nope. Just smash it.
Why This Gear Is Worth The Trouble
The Cryoray MK II isn’t just a cosmetic. It’s a functional weapon. You can freeze NPCs mid-walk, then watch them topple over like statues. You can freeze multiple goats in co-op and create a frozen sculpture garden. You can even freeze some smaller vehicles, though that’s inconsistent – I froze a golf cart but not a tractor. Goat Simulator physics, baby.
My favorite use: freeze a goat, then lick them off a cliff. They shatter on impact. It’s morbid. It’s wonderful.
Final Pro Tip From Someone Who Spent Too Long Here
After you get the Cryoray MK II, go back to the crashed UFO. There’s a hidden interaction if you freeze the alien skeleton inside. I won’t spoil it, but it involves a very confused Pilgor and a sound effect that made me laugh out loud.
Also, if you’re playing co-op, each player has to do the X-rock headbutting separately. The barrel only spawns for the person who digs it up. So take turns.
Now go freeze something. And remember: forty headbutts. Not fifteen.
