How to Fix Steam Mobile App’s Camera Access on iPhone

The Steam Mobile app uses a QR code scanner for secure login via Steam Guard. However, the app sometimes fails to even ask for camera permission, leaving you unable to scan codes. This is typically caused by a software glitch or a corrupted permission setting. Here are the most effective ways to resolve this issue.

1. Trigger the Permission Prompt via Profile Editor
If the QR scanner doesn’t trigger the camera request, you can trick the app into asking by using a different feature.

Open the Steam app and tap your Profile picture in the top-right.
Go to View Profile > Edit Profile > Avatar.
Tap Upload your avatar and choose Take Photo.
This should force the app to display the camera permission dialog. Allow access.
Fully close and restart the Steam app; the QR scanner should now work.
