Insta360 is challenging GoPro with the launch of the X5, a new 8K 360-degree action camera. On Tuesday, Insta360 unveiled the X5, a 360-degree action camera designed to work with an “invisible” selfie stick. This latest version in the flagship lineup is more robust than ever and can deliver stunning footage at 5.7K and 60fps, complete with HDR support (or 8K footage without HDR). Impressive for a device small enough to fit in your pocket.
The dual-camera design captures genuine panoramic views, and the Chinese manufacturer showcased the X5’s features in a teaser video prior to its release. The X5 is now available for purchase through Insta360 and Amazon, starting at $549.99.
With the X5, Insta360 intensifies competition against GoPro, a brand that remains synonymous with action cameras for the time being. While the GoPro Hero13 Black continues to be a benchmark in the action camera market, Insta360 has made significant strides in crucial areas. The Ace Pro 2 features a Leica lens, while the X5 surpasses GoPro’s new Max 360 camera regarding video resolution and battery longevity (though GoPro’s updated 360-degree camera is less expensive).

The X5 will also include an invisible selfie stick that remains out of sight while recording, creating a distinctive floating camera appearance from a third-person view.
In a press release regarding the launch, Insta360 mentioned that the X5’s sensors are 144 percent larger than those in the X4, allowing for a new AI-driven low-light mode.
Additionally, this camera marks a significant first as it features replaceable lenses.
